A parade dragon which bore China’s national flag along with the Jalur Gemilang in Muar, Johor, has led to police investigation being opened.

Muar police chief Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the parade dragon was part of a procession for the Muar Tiong Hua Association’s 20th anniversary celebration. The dragon was said to be the longest in Malaysia.

“Based on police monitoring during the procession, it was found that the parade dragon was decorated with the Jalur Gemilang on its right while its left featured the flag of China,” he said, according to Bernama.

The organisers have been summoned to assist in the investigation, under laws against causing public alarm, and on the display of foreign flags in public places.

Last month, Tangkak police investigated the use of a rocket replica which featured a flag of China.

A similar controversy arose three months ago after China flags were waved at a procession in Teluk Intan, Perak, during the International Guan Gong Cultural Festival.

The Guan Gong Cultural Association apologised, saying the Chinese flags were displayed by foreign delegates on their own and were not planned by the organisers. - FMT
