Staff has miscarriage but inconsiderate employer is only prepared to grant 3-day max leave

BOSS from hell indeed!

That was the simple revelation by X netizen MALAYSIAMOSTVIRAL (@MALAYSIAVIRALLL) regarding an employer’s response over a staff’s claim for medical leave (MC) for a miscarriage.

She had apparently been given a medical certificate (MC) of seven days but her boss contended that she was only entitled to three days.

Quite a few netizens rightly pointed out that miscarriage should fall under hospitalisation leave, not annual medical leave. Henceforth, the staff would have been entitled to 60 days of leave.

Quite a few netizens had a few choice words for the “heartless employer” who did not empathise nor offer words of support for the stricken staff. With one hoping the boss himself would suffer ill health in order to realise his wrongdoings.

But one did sympathise with the boss, remarking that perhaps the staff should have been clearer by explaining the need to observe “pantang” (confinement period) post-miscarriage.

One commenter nevertheless pointed out that it was not difficult for the boss to feign sympathy with a few words of comfort.

Another counselled that perhaps it was unwise to post these matters on social media as the employer may have many problems to deal with. It has since emerged that the poster of that MC regretted doing so.

This sentiment was echoed by another netizen who said it would only make work extremely awkward if she did decide to stay on in her job.

This was especially so if the staff did not want her boss to see the said post.

If this case is indeed genuine, one commenter suggested that the best solution is to report the matter directly to the Labour Department.

However, a few did bring up a pertinent question – why only an MC from a clinic and not a note from a hospital?

It would appear there is more than meets the eye. There are always two sides to every story and as many have pointed out, perhaps the boss was preoccupied by other matters to notice reason for the MC.

However, if he did see it and that was indeed his response, then he really is the boss from hell. –  Focus Malaysia
