SEVEN out of 10 Malaysians believe that the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal has tarnished Prime Minister Najib Razak’s reputation, according to the latest survey conducted by Institute Darul Ehsan.

According to the Malaysia: mood of the nation survey, conducted from August 11-15, only 14% of Malaysians disagreed that the 1MDB scandal has damaged Najib’s image while 17% were unsure.

The survey also showed that 64% of Malaysians want Najib to debate with the opposition’s choice of prime minister as practised in other countries.

Only 15% disagreed with the suggestion while 21% were unsure.

Ruling coalition Barisan Nasional was also on the lower end of voter satisfaction as only 29% were satisfied with its performance.

Post-13th general election, 41% of the respondents felt that BN was mediocre while 31% found the BN-led federal government to be poor.

On the other hand, 49% of the voters in Selangor were satisfied with the PKR-led government. Only 6% were unhappy while 45% found the government in Selangor mediocre.

DAP-led Penang garnered a 40% approval rating with 12% unhappy with the government while 49% marked it mediocre.

In Kelantan, the PAS-led administration garnered 39% approval rating with only 8% unhappy with it.

In GE13, BN obtained 4.315 million votes or 46.2% of the popular vote while the opposition picked up 5.035 million votes or 53.5% of the popular vote.

The latest IDE survey was conducted face-to-face with 4,486 registered voters. The random sampling was taken from 12.08 million registered voters in the peninsula.

According to IDE the margin of error is around 2%.

Two unidentified men shot and wounded the driver of former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail at the victim’s house in Ampang Perdana this morning.

In the 8.30am incident, the men reportedly approached the victim on the pretext of asking for directions before shooting at him in the leg.

According to China Press, police are investigating the motive and attempting to identify the assailants.

Quoting sources, the report said it appeared that the assailants had wanted to send a warning and therefore shot the victim in the leg.

The report, which identified the victim only as Mustafa, said he had been working as a driver for Gani since January this year.

It was reported that at the time of the incident, the front gate was opened as the victim was about to leave the house.

The assailants had fled the scene on a motorbike.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who was just about to leave for work was shot in the knee at his house in Taman Putra here.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah said the incident occurred at around 8.20am on Tuesday.

“We received information that a man had been shot in front of his house and rushed to the scene.

“Investigations revealed the victim who works as a driver was just leaving for work when two men on a red motorcycle approached him.

“They told him they wanted to speak to him as he was closing the main gate,” ACP Hamzah said when contacted Tuesday.

He said the victim suddenly heard a loud bang and could not move his leg and fell to the ground.

“The two men fled the scene on their motorcycle.

“The victim who was rushed to Ampang Hospital suffered a gunshot wound to his left knee and is in stable condition,” he said, adding that the suspects are believed to be two local men in their 30s.

ACP Hamzah said the motive for the shooting was still unclear.

“We are investigating the case under the Fire Arms (Increased Penalties) Act,” he said, urging anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or visit the nearest police station.

I remember when JDT had important matches at the Larkin Stadium (Charity Cup) and Shah Alam Stadium (FA Cup). Back then, many politicians and high ranking state officials requested for ticket quotas of up to two thousand pieces.

I had then informed Captain Fahmy, the Administrative Officer of Johor Military Force, that I was not agreeable to the demands and gave only a few to them and the rest to the fans.

The fans are the heartbeat that motivates a football team whether it is a club or a national team. Football is nothing without fans.

It is believed that Tunku Ismail was responding to the Ultras Malaya announcing that they would not attend the SEA Games football final between Malaysia and Thailand.

The fiery Ultras Malaya is Malaysia’s largest and most organised football supporters club.

From a statement taken from the Facebook page UM’07, the Ultras Malaya said that their boycott is a show of solidarity for the “12th man,” referring to fans who could not purchase tickets for the final.

“Ultras Malaya will stand in solidarity with all the 12th man, not just the victims of the weaknesses of the (ticket sales system) at the SEA Games, but also those who are the victims of greed every time the ticket sales system fails, whether for the M-League (Malaysia Super League) or other matches.

“For how long do we as fans have to face this situation? The Yang Berhormat (VIPs) are going back and forth with free tickets for every semi-final, final and big match, those who are connected can easily access tickets, while we as fans are not treated the same, despite us being the heartbeat of the sport.

“It is 2017, this is still happening, and always in Malaysian football,” the posting read.

Tickets to the final were sold yesterday at the Shah Alam Stadium and the nearby Malawati Stadium, but not online.

Thousands camped overnight outside the stadiums for a chance to purchase the tickets, but counters, which opened at 11am on Monday morning, experienced long periods of suspension throughout the day.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin clarified on Twitter that the decision to not sell the tickets online was due to the online payment gateway provider not being able to handle the volume of sales.-

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli (pic) says he has forgiven Latheefa Koya and other party members who have accused him of being an “Umno agent”.

“I forgive Latheefa and others who made accusations against me. I understand that political views are always filled with emotions,” he said in a blog post on Tuesday.

Rafizi appeared unfazed over claims that he had been “bought over” by Umno, pointing out that such rumours have been circulating for the past year.

Rafizi also emphasised that he had not met any minister or senior leader from Barisan Nasional, aside from locking horns with them in Parliament.

“I only met Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi once in court in 2012 over his summonses against me.

“Latheefa’s accusation is nothing new. Stories about me making a deal with the Deputy Prime Minister to destroy PKR from within, in exchange for not going to jail, has been making rounds for more than a year.

“However, I will not answer these accusations. I’d rather spend my time preparing the election machinery for marginal seats assisted by Invoke,” he said.

Invoke is a policy research centre founded by Rafizi in October last year.

Rafizi is currently facing an 18-month jail sentence for exposing the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) audit report without approval. The court has allowed a stay of the sentence pending appeal.

He is also facing charges under the Banking and Financial Institutions Act (Bafia) 1989 for revealing confidential banking details linked to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).

Rafizi said Opposition leaders should not feel threatened by him because he might be leaving politics for good due to his impending prison sentence.

“I may be barred from entering politics for a period of more than seven years. I’m not sure if I will remain in politics after serving my sentence because I cannot read the future.

“That’s why I shouldn’t be seen as a political threat to my party colleagues. Instead, they should see me as a leader with differing opinions,” he said.

On Monday, Rafizi admitted that he was the party member referenced in Facebook posts by lawyer Latheefa.

Latheefa had, however, declined to comment on her sternly-worded Facebook postings, which had targeted a senior party member in PKR and fuelled much speculation in the comment sections of her status updates.

The BEST case scenario has UMNO losing 40 Felda seats.

12, 24 or 40 what is certain is that UMNO WILL LOSE SEATS IN FELDA.

And this is before the news that Doraemon will “sabotage” FIVE seats in his state.

There are another couple of facts about UMNO losing seats that I will not divulge here.

Some people are jittery that PKR will still do a ‘last minute deal’ with UMNO via PAS.

A package deal for the Bamboo River guy and maybe one more guy. Some Bersatu folks have already sounded out that Bersatu break with PKR and PAS and just go with Parti Amanah, Parti Warisan, Hindraf and the DAP.

Both UMNO and PAS are very highly toxic. Radioactive. Whoever touches them will get burnt.

A Swiss private bank has reportedly handed over to authorities nearly 900 pages of paperwork related to a client allegedly linked to the 1MDB scandal and to AWOL Malaysian businessman Jho Low.

Lombard Odier held an account for Yousef Al Otaiba, according to hacked emails that surfaced earlier this month. Swiss newspaper «Le Temps» (in French) reports that the Geneva-based private bank has handed over more than 900 pages of documentation relating to Otaiba, who is the United Arab Emirates ambassador to the U.S.

Besides his role as a key link between the Middle East and the U.S., Otaiba is a very wealthy businessman who owns a chunk of Silicon Valley security firm Palantir. He also allegedly has a financial link to Jho Low, the Malaysia businessman whom U.S. prosecutors believe masterminded the illicit trail of state money into private coffers.

The newspaper has also mined the emails and found a pattern of doubt and mistrust on the part of the bank, which the newspaper reports shut Otaiba’s account in 2016. It also shows that Otaiba was wary of Low, whom he had financial dealings with.

Party Boy Low

For example, Low asked Otaiba to write him a recommendation for Goldman Sachs’ wealth operation in Switzerland, also based in Geneva. Otaib’s response? «Invent an excuse» not to do it, Otaiba told an associate when informed of Low’s request.

These letters are common in the private banking industry – the formalized version of word-of-mouth references. In fact, Low had asked – and received – a similar recommendation letter from Tim Leissner, a former Goldman Sachs banker in Asia whom has since been banned from Singapore’s finance industry for ten years.

Another sign that Otaiba was growing wary: he wrote in another email that Low «needs to calm down and quit partying,» referring to the financier’s propensity for the New York and Los Angeles red carpet scene.

Separately, the wealthy Emirati diplomat reportedly had business ties to Credit Suisse as well. When the Swiss bank wouldn’t release $1 million of his personal funds – for reasons which don’t emerge in the emails – Otaiba became so angry he threatened to complain to his government.
