MACC: Don't use Kevin Morais as political football

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today appealed that deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais' death not be used as a "political football" after Australian Broadcasting Corporation's (ABC) 'Four Corners' documentary linked his murder to 1MDB and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"Kevin's death was a tragedy.
"He should be allowed to rest in peace and not used like a political football," MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed said in a statement today.
Abu Kassim insisted that Morais was not involved in the drafting of a charge sheet against the prime minister.
"Kevin was transferred out of the MACC in July 2014, one year before the investigations into 1MDB ever began, and never attended any of the special task force meetings chaired by the former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.
"We would like to put the record straight that MACC has never sought advice from Kevin on both bases.
"Therefore, Kevin could not be, and was not, involved in writing any charge sheet relating to 1MDB or the prime minister.
"Any statement to the contrary is completely false," he said.
Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali had in September last year said that Kevin was not involved in the investigations relating to 1MDB and Najib.
This was later reiterated by MACC investigations director Azam Baki in December last year.
Kevin was in September last year found brutally murdered with his body stuffed into a cement-filled oil drum. -Mkini
