PETALING JAYA: Eight families from the 10 victims of the Elmina plane crash will receive compensation from the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
In a Bernama report, human resources minister V Sivakumar said one person will receive the Survivors’ Pension Benefit under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).
“Another beneficiary is eligible to receive two benefits, namely the Dependent’s Benefit under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme Act (Act 789) and Survivors’ Pension Benefit under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4),” he said in a statement.
“However, two families will not receive the Socso benefits because one of them was a civil servant and the other did not contribute to the scheme.”
Meanwhile, Sivakumar said Socso contributed RM2,000 to the funeral arrangements of seven victims under its Funeral Management Benefit scheme.
The payment to the next of kin of another person has been delayed as there has been no response from the family.
A Beechcraft business jet crashed on the Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina last Thursday, killing all six passengers, two crew members on board and two others on the ground.
Among those who died were Pahang state executive councillor Johari Harun.
The aircraft was on its way from Langkawi to Subang airport and had been cleared to land at 2.48pm. It crashed minutes later. - FMT
