MUAR: A special meeting in October will address issues faced by furniture industry players, says Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said he will be chairing the roundtable session, expected to be held in Kuala Lumpur.
"I have met with members of the Muar as well as national furniture associations here (and) they have brought up several issues.
"I have agreed to work with the Johor government to have a roundtable session where these issues will be addressed," he told a press conference after a dialogue session with furniture industry players here on Thursday (Aug 31).
Tengku Zafrul said among the issues raised were the need for more skilled workers.
"(Industry players) also hope that the state and Federal governments could assist them in reaching out to new markets outside the country.
"The status of the Muar Furniture Hub was also brought up (in the) hope that we (the government) could talk to the relevant party, which is Johor Corporation (JCorp)," he said, adding that a meeting will also be held with JCorp. - Star
