PETALING JAYA: Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof says he will initiate discussions with the national unity ministry to expand the #saysomethingnice campaign to MPs and state assemblymen.

In a Bernama report, he said the campaign would help remind politicians of their role in maintaining unity in Malaysia.

“We want to remind MPs and state assemblymen that they need to be leaders in uniting the people, and that this unity is critical towards making Malaysia a harmonious and advanced country.

“We need to advance this effort to encourage every level of society, be they politicians, members of the corporate world, and citizens from all walks of life, to start saying something nice to unite our country.

“We have to be united in our actions and aspirations towards a better Malaysia because we are known as a united country which is respected globally,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the #saysomethingnice unity campaign at Taylor’s University in Subang Jaya.

The campaign, which was first launched 10 years ago, will be held for 17 days starting Aug 31 in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day.

Earlier in his speech, Fadillah urged Malaysians to be courageous in calling out politicians who speak inappropriately.

“If politicians do not speak appropriately, do not be afraid to call them out. We need everyone to build a more peaceful and prosperous Malaysia together so that we can live in peace and harmony,” he said. - FMT
