A concert featuring dangdut sensation Baby Shima will relocate from Kepala Batas to nearby Batu Kawan in Penang.
According to ticket website ticket2u.com.my, the ‘Konsert Viral Lagu Lagu TikTok Malaysia Indonesia’ will now be held at the Batu Kawan state stadium.
Originally, organisers planned to hold the concert at Dewan Millenium. Both venues are owned by the state government and managed by the Penang Stadium Board and Open Spaces Corporation.
Johorean Baby Shima, real name Nor Ashima Ramli (above), has a major following in Indonesia. She currently has 1.75 million YouTube followers.
Yesterday, Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohamad Abdul Hamid said there were complaints against the concert because it would be held two days after the Maulidur Rasul (Prophet Muhammad’s birthday) celebration.
He added that the organisers have requested to relocate to a venue in Batu Kawan with additional conditions.
Newly elected Bertam assemblyperson Reezal Merican Naina Merican was among those who complained against the concert in writing to Seberang Perai City Council mayor Azhar Arshad.
The Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency to the south of the state is a predominantly non-Malay area.
“They can deal with the Seberang Perai council, which is in charge of permits,” he said.
No objections
When asked to comment on calls for the Penang government not to “compete” with Perikatan Nasional on being conservative, Chow said his administration had no such intentions.
“It is not government policy to compete (with PN). We offer (policies that promote) unity, progressiveness, inclusivity, and values that will bring progress,” he said.
When asked if the state government welcomed concerts, he said as long as organisers follow the requirements, there will be no objections from his administration. - Mkini
