KUALA LUMPUR: Speculation that Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will not be appointed Selangor Menteri Besar for the second term is untrue.

Amirudin's press secretary, Jay Jay Denis described the claim as attempt by people who thrived on drama.

"This (the speculation) is just an attempt by some bored people who are thriving for drama.

"Trust the process, as the sultan had just returned (from London) this morning, and it is rude for anyone to preempt the process," he said when contacted.

He said the swearing-in of the menteri besar and state executive council would also be done on the same day, depending on the sultan's condition.

He however declined to elaborate on the possible date of the swearing-in ceremony.

Earlier, there were media reports claiming that Amirudin, a Sungai Tua assemblyman, could be dropped as the menteri besar candidate and replaced by Seri Setia assemblyman, Dr Fahmi Ngah.

This followed reports that Amirudin's return as the menteri besar was not assured despite being named by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The reports stated that only seven candidates from Amirudin's camp were fielded in the Aug 12 polls, while the rest of the PKR candidates were believed to be aligned with the party's deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

Meanwhile, it was understood that the new Selangor Menteri Besar is expected to be sworn in this Friday.

It was also believed that the name of the MB candidate was likely to be presented to the Selangor sultan tomorrow for consent.

The Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition succeeded in forming the Selangor state government after winning 34 out of 56 state assembly seats in the state election.

Of the 34, DAP won 15, PKR won 12, Amanah won five and BN won two seats. Meanwhile, PN won 22 seats (Bersatu - 12, Pas - 10). - NST
