Convene EGM to discuss Umno's disastrous electoral outing - leader

 

Umno grassroots are anxious following the party's disastrous outing in the recently concluded state polls, said supreme council member Isham Jalil.

As such, an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) should be held as soon as possible to discuss rising and related matters.

Isham (above) pointed out that almost a week has passed since Umno's defeat in the state polls, and the party’s supreme council has yet to call for a meeting.

"The grassroots will become increasingly anxious if the leadership stays silent and does not provide guidance in times of crisis.

"Being in denial and buying time for an issue to be forgotten is not the best choice," he said in a statement today.

Therefore, Isham called for the Umno supreme council to discuss holding an EGM to talk about the party's future direction.

"The EGM should include the grassroots, as the decision taken in the meeting will be critical and impact all Umno members and grassroots,” he added.

Umno won only 19 out of 108 seats it contested in the state polls.

Previously, Isham listed three factors that caused Umno's drubbing in the six state elections.

These include Umno's cooperation with DAP in the coalition government, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the imprisonment of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Elaborating, Isham said the EGM is crucial for the party leadership to gauge the grassroots voice.
