STATE POLLS | Gerakan wants its ally PAS to explain the incident where its president Dominic Lau was allegedly snubbed at a Perikatan Nasional mega ceramah in Sungai Dua, Penang on Tuesday night.
This is despite Lau having downplayed the issue and denying that he was snubbed.
According to Penang-based Chinese daily Kwong Wah Yit Poh, state Gerakan chief Oh Tong Keong said the incident was regrettable.
"Even though Lau was not invited, he is the PN deputy chairperson and Penang PN chairperson.
"The organiser was rude and disrespectful towards the leader of a component party in PN," said Oh, who is also Gerakan deputy president at the national level.
Oh was speaking to reporters after visiting a wet market in Penang.
On Tuesday night, Penang PAS secretary Iszuree Ibrahim had barred Lau from joining PN leaders on stage, saying the latter was not invited.
He also told Lau to "go away".
Iszuree was reportedly slated to contest in Bayan Lepas before the Malay-majority seat went to the Gerakan president.
Blocked from meeting Hadi
Lau was then blocked by PAS Youth members from meeting with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Commenting on the snub, Oh said that Lau did not request to speak on stage at the ceramah but only wanted to meet Hadi on a prior appointment.
Hence, he said the organiser should not have been overly sensitive.
Oh added that Iszuree might have personal emotions after Lau was named as the PN candidate for Bayan Lepas.
"Gerakan urges PAS to conduct an investigation and review the matter," he said. - Mkini
