Govt extends support to families of Elmina plane crash victims

The government will provide support to the families of those who perished in the Elmina plane crash.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Putrajaya will help in “whatever way possible”, including managing the remains.

“The deputy prime ministers, Selangor menteri besar, Pahang menteri besar and I want to convey our condolences to the families. The only thing that can be done now is to speed up the identification process.

“Everything will be managed by the federal government, the Selangor state government, and the relevant departments.

“In addition to that, the government will provide assistance to families, especially those who do not have permanent jobs,” he told reporters outside of Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang today.

Yesterday, a Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) aircraft crashed on the Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Ten people, including Pahang state executive councillor Johari Harun, were killed when the light aircraft, operated by Jet Valet Sdn Bhd, crashed at about 2.50pm.

The victims comprised six passengers and two crew members of the plane, as well as a motorcyclist and a motorist, who were passing by the area.

The ill-fated plane departed from Langkawi International Airport at 2.08pm and was heading to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang when it crashed.

All the remains were sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for post-mortem.

According to Bernama, the identification of the first body, believed to be of the motorcyclist, was completed at 6pm yesterday.

Additionally, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau has recovered the cockpit voice recorder of the aircraft but has yet to recover the Flight Data Recorder, both of which are components of the black box. - Mkini
