Green Party pleads to Selangor ruler to reject Amirudin

The Green Party has pleaded to the ruler of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Abdul Aziz Shah to not appoint Amirudin Shari as the state menteri besar for a second term.

Its secretary Abdul Razak Ismail claimed this is due to the "environmental damage" that has happened under Amirudin's administration.

"The Green Party pleads to His Highness to reject Amirudin from being reappointed as menteri besar due to the damages done/about to happen to forest reserves in the state.

"We have not even touched on how the East Coast Rail Link project goes deep into state parks in the Hulu Gombak and Serendah forest reserves, and the train track towards Port Klang goes deep into the Raja Muda forest reserve," he said on social media today.

Since its establishment, the political outfit focused on environmental issues has been vocal in fighting for the cause with a special focus on forestry matters in Selangor.

The party alleged forests being damaged include Kuala Langat North and South forest reserves, Bukit Cerakah forest reserve, Bukit Lagong forest reserve, the forest bordering Hulu Selangor-Genting Highland, and Sungai Panjang Peat Swamp forest, Sabak Bernam.

The party also previously opposed the redevelopment of a sports complex in Shah Alam and the Selangor Maritime Gateway river-widening project.

Only one name

Abdul Razak told Malaysiakini that his party will write an official letter to the Selangor palace on the matter soon.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that a list with three names has been submitted to the Selangor palace for the menteri besar post.

Amirudin Shari

They include incumbent Amirudin Shari (Sungai Tua), Fahmi Ngah (Seri Setia), and Borhan Ahmad Shah (Tanjong Sepat).

However, a source close to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told Malaysiakini that only one name was submitted but remained tightlipped on the identity.

The Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition won 34 out of 56 seats in the Selangor state assembly in the recently concluded state elections.

The win, however, came at a price as the coalition lost its two-thirds majority after conceding 22 seats to Perikatan Nasional, particularly in northern Selangor. - Mkini
