The Home Ministry raided and conducted a seizure at the Toko Buku Rakyat bookstore owned by local author Benz Ali at Wisma Central, Kuala Lumpur, earlier today.
When contacted, Benz confirmed the incident and expressed his disappointment with the confiscation.
“You can’t do this. What’s more, under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. This is just like the previous BN government.
“It’s your government, yet you can’t even control the Home Ministry. I sell books that are not listed in the banned book list.
“Instead, if you (the authorities) are suspicious, you should come, buy the book, and conduct an investigation until you’re satisfied. These books are not listed as prohibited. You can’t just come and seize them like this,” he said.
Malaysiakini has contacted the Home Ministry and its minister, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for comments.
Benz said four officials from the ministry showed up at the shop to conduct a raid at around 4pm earlier today.
He said the officials seized two titles: “Marx the Revolutionary Educator” (Marx Sang Pendidik Revolusioner) written by Robin Smalls and “Masturbation Poetry Collection” (Koleksi Puisi Masturbasi) written by Benz himself.
“The ministry seized one copy of each of these two titles.
“The reason given was that it comes under the purview of Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984,” he said. - Mkini
