Politicians, netizens convey condolences to families of air crash victims

PETALING JAYA: The nation’s leaders and netizens have conveyed their condolences to the families of the Beechcraft Model 390 aircraft crash near Elmina, Selangor.

The victims consisted of eight passengers on board as well as a motorist and a motorcyclist who were killed after being hit by the crashing plane.

Those on board the plane have been identified as pilots Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, as well as passengers, Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Naim Fawwaz Muaidi, Johari Harun, Taufiq Zaki and and Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali. Johari was a Pahang exco member.

Opposition leader and Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said he was deeply saddened by the death of his friend Johari as well as the other victims.

“Not only do I know the late Johari, but I also know the other victims and their families. This is indeed a difficult time for the families involved and I pray that he will rest in peace,” said Hamzah in a Facebook post.

Johari was also a friend of former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and MCA president Wee Ka Siong, who also conveyed their condolences to the families of the late politician and other victims.

“May Johari’s family and the families of (other) victims be strong in facing this challenge (from the Almighty),” said Ismail in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Muda president and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman called for the privacy of the victims’ families to be respected.

“Don’t share the videos of the (crash) victims. Imagine if our family members were the ones involved (in the crash) and we saw such horrifying videos shared publicly,” he said in a tweet.

Numerous netizens on Twitter and Facebook also conveyed their condolences to the victims’ families. Among them was Twitter user @marsyaafariz who said that the captain of the aircraft was a family friend.

“This is truly shocking news for them, especially my dad. He is still shocked until now. Al-Fatihah for all the victims,” said @marsyaafariz. - FMT
