Pulai Umno chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed has dismissed claims that party branches under his division have rejected BN-Harapan’s Pulai candidate Suhaizan Kayat.
Nur Jazlan (above) described a banner purportedly put up at an unidentified location in Pulai as a “dirty tactic” by their opponents.
“I see the move to put up a banner, take a photograph, and ‘viral’ it on social media as an act by the opposition.
“A dirty tactic which should have not been used,” said the Umno supreme council member to Malaysiakini when met at a function in Pulai with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Suhaizan, and BN’s election machinery tonight.
The purported banner found ahead of nomination day tomorrow stated: Kami Cawangan-Cawangan Umno Bahagian Pulai Menolak Calon Pakatan Harapan!
(We branches of the Pulai Umno division reject the Pakatan Harapan candidate!)
“If it’s true there were rejections from my branches, there will be branch chiefs holding a press conference or something. But there was none.
“So I see this as a fake thing and a dirty tactic by the opposition,” said the former Pulai MP.
Suhaizan is expected to go up against Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar, and at least one independent who has indicated intentions to run in the seat which fell vacant following the death of the incumbent from Pakatan Harapan, Salahuddin Ayub.
Nur Jazlan contested against the late Salahuddin and PN’s Loh Kah Yong in a three-cornered fight during the 15th general election.
Following the post-GE15 alliance with Pakatan Harapan and other parties now in the federal government, BN has announced that it will make way for Amanah to defend the seat. - Mkini
