BUTTERWORTH: Former Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy has quit DAP.
The former Perai assemblyman made the announcement just weeks after he was dropped from the list of DAP candidates for the Penang state election.
“I handed in my resignation letter to secretary-general Loke Siew Fook this morning,” he said at a press conference here.
“I made this decision after a lot of thought, and I also talked to my friends and family before making this decision.”
Ramasamy was among the seven former assemblymen dropped as candidates. The three-term Perai assemblyman won the seat in 2008.
Last month, Ramasamy questioned whether DAP was still the same party he joined in 2005, citing a lack of transparency and consistency in the announcement of candidates.
He said a number of incumbents had been dropped on grounds the party wanted to rejuvenate itself but “the fact is many younger candidates were dropped and replaced by much older candidates”. - FMT
