KOTA KINABALU: A woman was killed after she was crushed by a truck in a seven-vehicle pile-up accident at Lido, Jalan Lintas.

In the incident around 6pm, the victim, Nicolette Hannah George, 26, who was driving a Perodua Bezza car, was confirmed dead at the scene.

It is learned that the victim, from Kampung Babah, Penampang, worked at a private company at Kepayan 88.

District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah, said there were two trucks, and 5 cars involved in the accident (Perodua Bezza, Perodua Myvi, Toyota Vios, Proton Saga, Proton Iriz).

"The accident is believed to have occurred when a truck collided with the vehicle in front of it, causing the rearmost vehicle to be trapped under the truck.

"As a result of the incident, the driver of the Perodua Bezza car was trapped and confirmed dead at the scene," he said when met at the scene, adding the body was sent for a postmortem examination.

Mohd Zaidi said they had not received any information about the status of the other victims.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Operations Control Centre (PGO) of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said a team of firefighters from the Lintas and Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene upon receiving a call regarding the incident.
