KUALA LUMPUR: A former secretary to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told the High Court today the deputy prime minister never permitted her to use funds from Yayasan Akalbudi to pay credit card debts or car insurance.
Rosiah Osman, who worked for Zahid from 1994 to 2011, said he always paid for such expenses from his personal account.
“He never instructed (the use of foundation funds to pay personal debts),” she said in reply to questions by lawyer Ahmad Zaidi Zainal.
Rosiah said Yayasan Akalbudi’s funds could only be used to reimburse Zahid for purchases made on behalf of mosques and donations advanced on the foundation’s behalf.
On Monday, Rosiah had told the court that Zahid did now allow her to use a stamp bearing a replica of his signature on cheques throughout her 17 years of service.
She said the replica signature was only meant to be used on festive greeting cards and certificates of appreciation.
Re-examined by deputy public prosecutor Dusuki Mokhtar today, Rosiah denied that Zahid’s instructions on the management of his finances were “confusing” to her.
She also said she had briefed Zahid’s former executive secretary, Major Mazlina Mazlan @ Ramly, on how to handle his credit card payments, but her successor was “careless” in the discharge of her duties.
Zahid is standing trial on 47 charges of money laundering and criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving millions from Yayasan Akalbudi, and accepting bribes for various projects during his tenure as home minister.
Twelve of the charges are for CBT, eight for corruption and the remainder for money laundering.
The hearing before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah continues on Monday. - FMT
