Two men were arrested yesterday over the sale of mats featuring images of a mosque and the Kaaba that were said to be doormats.
The duo, aged 26 and 41, were the business owner and an employee, according to acting Penang police chief Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.
He was cited by Bernama as saying that the arrest came after a police report was lodged regarding the mats.
The report was lodged by an individual who bought one of the mats at a bazaar last Saturday.
The case was investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code for intending to wound the religious feelings of others and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour.
The mats in question have a design similar to mats that were seized from an Aeon Big outlet earlier in April.
Aeon Big clarified that the mats were mislabelled as floor mats and were actually mini sejadah (prayer rugs). - Mkini
