The special “Madani” vehicle registration plate featuring the number “8481” has topped the bidding price list at RM9,999 in its category.
This particular number gained widespread attention on social media due to the claim that 8481 is similar to the word “BABI”, which means pig in Malay.
Previously, the number plate “Madani 47” also became the subject of ridicule after it was equated with the 47 corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Umno president has since been granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA), leading to allegations that it was part of the agreement to form the coalition government.
On a positive note, the “Madani 10” number plate symbolised Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke presented Anwar the “Madani 10” plate during an event in Sabah on Sunday.
The Road Transport Department (RTD) opened the bidding for the special number plates on Oct 19 and will end at 10pm tomorrow.
According to RTD director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli, the price for the special numbers depends on the categories, which included RM20,000 for main numbers, RM5,000 for premium numbers, RM2,500 for attractive numbers, RM500 for popular numbers, and RM100 for running numbers.
He said the proceeds from the sale would be used for government initiatives like MyLesen, the helmet exchange programme, FlySiswa, and Socso payments to taxi drivers. - Mkini
