PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is assured of one mixed doubles semi-finalist at the 2024 Arctic Open as two Malaysian pairs will be playing against each other in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
The first pair to check into the last eight was Hoo Pan Rong-Cheng Su Yin, who upstaged sixth seeds Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang of Taiwan 21-19, 21-12.
The Malaysian world No 28 pair took about 40 minutes to shock the Taiwanese, who are ranked No 13 in the BWF rankings.
In the quarter-final tomorrow, they will face their third-seeded compatriots Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai who defeated Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand 22-20, 21-16.
World No 10 pair Soon Huat-Shevon overcame the new Thailand combination in 41 minutes.
This will be the first time the pairs will be playing against each other in an international tournament. - FMT
