PETALING JAYA
PAS has denied allegations that the party has taken sides in the campaign for the Bersatu Youth chief post in the party polls set to take place next month.

PAS Youth information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar emphasised that his party has never interfered in the internal matters of its partners in Perikatan Nasional.

He also told all quarters not to turn PAS into a campaign tool for unnecessary polemics.

“PAS can work with anyone as long as our partners in any party wing look to create a more matured, empathetic and clean political environment.

“PAS Youth is not involved in campaigns within other component parties, because they know best the operations of their own parties,” he said in a statement.

FMT previously quoted a source from Bersatu Youth as saying the ability to manage ties with PAS Youth was said to be a key consideration for Bersatu delegates when choosing a new leader for the youth wing.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the Bersatu Youth leader said the majority are keen to maintain the collaboration with PAS in the next general election.

However, the source expressed concerns that the strong relationship between both parties’ youth wings may be strained if Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham – believed to be aligned with Selangor Bersatu chief Azmin Ali – wins the upcoming party elections.

The source said that PAS Youth are not “particularly fond of” Azmin’s faction in Bersatu.

Hilman, who has held the Gombak Setia seat in Selangor for two terms, will be going up against Bersatu Youth’s permanent chairman Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir for the Bersatu Youth chief position next month.

The winner will be replacing current youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who is not defending the post due to the age limit and is vying for a seat on the party’s Supreme Council. - FMT
