PETALING JAYA
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has ordered the special task force set up for children rescued from Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) charity homes not to delay their rehabilitation.

According to a statement by the Selangor Royal Office, Sultan Sharafuddin received an audience from state executive councillor Fahmi Ngah, who heads the Islamic religious and cultural innovation committee.

His Majesty wants the matter to be managed immediately and not delayed, as it involves the children’s future,
 read the statement.

It said the task force would report directly to the sultan and be responsible for the children’s rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Yesterday, Malay Mail reported the formation of the special task force to evaluate rehabilitation programmes for children rescued from GISBH charity homes.

Fahmi and fellow state executive councillor Anfaal Saari had said in a joint statement that this initiative follows the decision made by the State Executive Council on Oct 2.

The task force aims to implement effective rehabilitation strategies that encompass faith-related issues, welfare, health, and mental-physical development, ensuring these children can be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society  after the official six-month rehabilitation,
 they said.

The inaugural meeting of this special task force is scheduled for Oct 11, with Fahmi and Anfaal serving as co-chairs.

Last Thursday, Selangor also issued a fatwa declaring that GISBH is an organisation that promotes deviant teachings.

The Selangor Royal Office said Sultan Sharafuddin assented to the state fatwa committee’s decision on Sept 30.

“The Selangor fatwa committee is satisfied that GISBH’s leaders, followers, workers or members, as well as those in its network, are still following teachings practised by the Darul Arqam group, which was banned in 1993.

The beliefs, teachings, principles and practices of GISBH and its network involve elements that deviate from true Islamic teachings,
 it said in a statement.

The Selangor Ruler had also ordered the immediate closure of all charitable homes and Islamic schools under GISBH and its network, which are unregistered and suspected of being involved in criminal activities. - FMT
