The police said that a viral video of a man beating his employee with a stick occurred in Sabah and had gone to court.
However, according to Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun, criminal charges against the perpetrator were later dropped as the victim withdrew his police report.
“This incident occurred in 2019, there was a police report lodged, and an investigation has been conducted.
“The case has been charged in court but the victim later withdrew his police report,” Jauteh said in a brief text message to Malaysiakini.

Malaysiakini contacted the Sabah top cop yesterday to get his comments on a video which went viral on Facebook recently, which showed a man using a stick to beat up another individual, purportedly his employee.
The video included text which accused a prominent Sabah businessperson of carrying out the beating.
It has yet to be ascertained if the person charged in the case was the businessperson, pending confirmation from the authorities.
Malaysiakini also reached out to the businessperson yesterday to check the authenticity of the claim and his response, but he declined to comment.
“I am not interested to comment. This is hal rumah tangga (domestic issue),” he said. - Mkini
