PETALING JAYA
A former director of a company has been fined RM450,000 for submitting false documents in connection with cooking oil subsidies and possessing more than the permitted amount of the controlled item.

Seremban sessions court judge Kamil Nizam imposed the fine on Azizul Abdul Halim, a former colleague of opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin’s son Faisal, after he pleaded guilty to three alternative charges.

Azizul, 57, faces a total of 18 months in prison if he fails to pay the fine, Bernama reported.

Azizul and Faisal, 39, initially claimed trial to the charges in April 2023.

Azizul was charged with two counts of giving false information on invoices for the sale of cooking oil to two retail stores as a director of Rimba Merpati Sdn Bhd, a licensed wholesaler for subsidised cooking oil.

The offences were committed at the domestic trade and cost of living ministry’s Negeri Sembilan office in August 2022.

He was also charged with possessing subsidised cooking oil over the 50-tonne limit, prescribed by the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, at Rimba Merpati’s business premises in Seremban in August 2022.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Alimah Sanusi prosecuted while Azizul was represented by lawyer Hasnan Hamzah. - FMT
