PETALING JAYA: The agriculture and food security ministry has denied fixing the floor price of padi at RM1,300 per tonne as alleged by a farmers’ group.
The ministry said there was no directive or decision made to fix the padi purchase price.
It urged the farmers’ association, Pertubuhan Persaudaraan Pesawah Malaysia, to stop spreading inaccurate information, which it said had caused confusion among farmers and stakeholders in the industry.
The group was reported on Wednesday to have opposed a purported joint decision by the ministry and rice millers to set the padi floor price at RM1,300 per tonne.
It is understood that millers had been offering higher purchase prices of between RM1,500 and RM1,800 per tonne on the open market. - FMT
