PM says he will help Zahid, Guan Eng 'settle' disagreements

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said he will mediate differences between parties in the coalition government.

Such arguments will not affect their political cooperation, he insisted to reporters during a walkabout at an eatery in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, this afternoon.

He spoke of the spat between DAP national chairperson Lim Guan Eng and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the deputy prime minister.

“We will settle it,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

Yesterday, Zahid jabbed at Lim, who doubted Umno’s sincerity in forming the coalition federal government.

The BN chairperson had said that Lim’s era has passed and urged the Bagan MP to put his trust in the current DAP leadership.

On Tuesday (Dec 31), Lim criticised Umno for planning a joint rally with PAS to show solidarity with jailed former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Lim had cautioned Umno that any joint programme with PAS, which is in the opposition, risks undermining political stability and casting doubt on Umno’s position in the government.

Umno and PAS are set to temporarily put aside their differences as they rally for Najib on Jan 6 at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya.

The rally coincides with a hearing concerning an alleged royal addendum that could allow Najib to serve the remainder of his prison term under house arrest. - Mkini
