SUNGAI PADI: Barely three days after a bomb explosion in Sungai Golok town killed two people and injured 12 others, another bomb went off along the Sungai Padi-Sungai Golok road today, leaving two paramilitary officers injured.
A Thai police spokesman said today's incident occurred near Bago Humo village at about 2pm (Thai time).
"The explosion occurred as an armoured vehicle carrying two paramilitary officers was passing through the area.
"As a result, the two officers, who were returning from a mission in Sungai Golok town, were injured.
"They were later taken to Sungai Padi Hospital," said the spokesman.
The injured officers have been identified as Volunteer Sergeant Asman Daje, 48, and Corporal Maddarus Wado, 35.
They were reported to be in stable condition.
The latest incident occurred more than 10km from Saturday night's bomb explosion in Sungai Golok town.
In that incident, which took place at 7.20pm (8.20pm Malaysian time) outside the Sungai Golok district office, two police volunteers were killed and 12 others injured.
The attack also occurred along the Sungai Golok-Sungai Padi road, near the Big C shopping centre.
The assailants initially engaged in gunfire before detonating a bomb in front of the district office. - Star
