Seberang Perai deputy police chief Norazmi Abd Ghapar said the incident took place mid-2024, with the students claiming it was intended as a joke, Berita Harian reported.
“So far, no reports have been received regarding this incident, but the police are conducting an initial investigation.
“We have identified the students involved. They are all Form 3 students at the institution,” he was quoted as saying.
“All of them will have their statements recorded under Section 323 of the Penal Code (for voluntarily causing hurt).”
Earlier today, it was reported that Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) was investigating the bullying case involving MRSM students featured in the viral video.
Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki called for the suspension of the students during the investigation process.
He reaffirmed his zero-tolerance stance on bullying, saying that strict policies were being enforced under his leadership.
The video, lasting over one minute, shows a group of male students pinning down another student on a bed and whipping him with a belt.
In 2021, a Mara boarding school in Perak had expelled 10 students over their alleged involvement in a bullying incident.
This came after a student was assaulted by his peers for allegedly telling off one of them for watching pornography on his mobile phone. - FMT
