The Transport Ministry has raised more than RM24 million through the auction of A____A number plates, held from April 19 to 23 in conjunction with the Road Transport Department's 79th anniversary celebrations.
In a statement today, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the auction of A____A number plates has fetched the government more than RM 24,022,793.
He said the proceeds from the auction will help fund a range of ministry initiatives, including the MyLesen programme, the Pertukaran Topi Keledar programme, the FlySiswa programme, and other initiative for the rakyat.
He said a total of 24,470 bids were submitted, of whom 6,746 successful bidders secured their preferred number plates via JPJeBid.
The highest bid of the series was RM 902,020 for the plate A9A, followed by RM 703,007 for A11A and RM 700,000 for A8A. Rounding out the top five were A7A at RM 502,000 and A2A at RM 490,888.
According to Loke, the most-contested plates were A51A, which attracted 40 bidders; A101A with 31; A8118A with 29; and both A1881A and A19A with 27 bidders each.
"The overwhelming interest in Series A____A demonstrates the public’s enthusiasm for unique vehicle identifiers," he said, extending his congratulations to all successful bidders and thanking everyone who participated through the JPJeBid system.
