PETALING JAYA:
A Rolls-Royce Cullinan worth RM3 million, believed to belong to a prominent businessman, was among 53 vehicles seized by the road transport department (JPJ) in the Klang Valley since Wednesday.

JPJ senior enforcement director Kifli Ma Hassan said the department also seized two Lamborghinis and an Aston Martin, Bernama reported.

He revealed that JPJ has identified the locations and owners of more than 1,000 luxury vehicles across the country that are operating with unpaid or expired road tax or insurance.

Some of the seized vehicles were also found to have unregistered number plates and other technical offences.

Many owners of the seized luxury cars claimed they had simply forgotten to renew their road tax and insurance. “However, this excuse is unacceptable, especially as some vehicles had road tax that expired as far back as 2022,” Kifli said.

During the operation, he said, three foreign men were arrested for driving luxury cars without valid insurance, driver’s licence, and expired road tax.

“One of them, when asked to produce a driving licence, handed over an international licence which, upon inspection, was found to be fake. The man later admitted that he had purchased the fake licence while abroad.”

The seized vehicles are being held at the JPJ storage depot for investigation and further action, he said. - FMT
