Gaza-bound 'Conscience' reaches Ashdod Port, fate of other vessels unknown

KUALA LUMPUR: The Conscience, a ship carrying 92 activists under the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (TMTG), has reportedly arrived at the Port of Ashdod.

The update was shared by Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE) in a statement today.

The ship, which is carrying 92 people comprising medical doctors, journalists, and humanitarian activists, including eight Malaysians, is believed to have arrived at 12.45am Malaysian time.

"However, the status of the remaining eight ships is still unknown as of 8am today," the statement read.

MyCARE added that lawyers from the Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel (Adalah) were present at the port to assess the condition of those detained on behalf of the FFC.

MyCARE also urged the public to pray for the well-being of all detained activists.

Yesterday, nine vessels, including the Conscience, were intercepted by Israeli forces while en route to Gaza.

The interception reportedly took place around 120 nautical miles from Gaza waters, in the so-called "yellow zone".

The Malaysians aboard the Conscience are Prof Dr Mohd Alauddin Mohd Ali (mission leader); Dr Fauziah Hassan; Dr Hafiz Sulaiman; Dr Ili Syakira Mohd Suhaimi; Syafik Shukri Abdul Jalil; Prof Dr Mohd Afandi Salleh; Dr Noorhasyimah Ismail and Norsham Abu Bakar.

Another Malaysian representative, Dr Maziah Muhammad, was aboard another vessel, Umm Saad.

All of those detained are part of the third wave of the Freedom Flotilla humanitarian mission, which departed in stages toward Gaza. - NST
