1Utama experiences blackout; shoppers leave shopping mall in droves amidst emergency lights

Editor’s note: Preliminary investigations found that TNB’s supply system to One Utama was stable and operating as normal. The disruption originated from an internal issue within the building, said TNB in a statement.

As a follow-up measure, TNB’s technical team has been in contact with the shopping centre’s management to provide the necessary assistance.

A BLACKOUT at the 1Utama shopping mall today caused quite the confusion, as reported by some Shoppers who said it occurred in the midst of watching Wicked: For Good at the TGV Cinema.

Stumbling in the dark, they were later ushered out of the movie theatre, where they joined a huge crowd making their way to the parking lot while the emergency lights lit the way.

At the moment, it is unsure whether the blackout encompasses the entire 1Utama shopping mall or perhaps a significant portion of the mall was affected.

Here are several photos of the scene at the blackout, supplied by a Shopper:

The parking lot was also jammed with cars attempting to leave the place. According to the Shopper who contacted FocusM, certain part of the shopping mall had been temporarily closed due to the electricity disruption. On another note, this is not the first time a blackout has occurred there.

Previously on August 25 this year, media World Of Buzz reported a mass blackout in Petaling Jaya which also affected the 1 Utama shopping mall. TNB in a statement estimated that it would take 2 to 4 hours before electricity could come back.

The power supply was cut off around 11 in the morning and employees of respective stores were seen sitting outside the premises while waiting for the electricity to be restored. But fortunately, shoppers and employees alike did not have to wait long for the power was restored at about 12.15pm that day.

As for today’s blackout, we can only wait as the updates come in from eye-witnesses there. 1Utama has yet to make any announcement pertaining to the power disruption at the time of publication.— Focus Malaysia
