A Bersatu Youth leader has been released from police custody today over a sedition probe linked to a video allegedly critical of the Malaysia-US reciprocal trade agreement.
Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid confirmed that his wing's exco member Ashraf Hayup Khan has been released from Dang Wangi lock-up, following a remand proceeding.
"The police applied for a one-day remand, but no extension (of detention) was granted, so Ashraf has been freed," Harris told Malaysiakini.
He added that Ashraf was represented by lawyer Afiq Nardin.
Apart from sedition, Ashraf was also investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code for statements conducing to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of a network facility.

Last night, Harris, in a media statement, said Ashraf was arrested in Penang at 9.30pm and taken to the Dang Wangi district police station, Kuala Lumpur.
"The arrest was over a video uploaded on the Malaysia-US trade agreement and (US President Donald) Trump's visit to Kuala Lumpur," he said, without revealing further details.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Trump signed the reciprocal trade agreement on Oct 26 while the US president was visiting Malaysia to attend the Asean summit in the capital. - Mkini
