Albert tells Chin to continue media exposés, claims authorities can't be trusted

Businessperson Albert Tei, who exposed the Sabah mining scandal, has urged fellow businessperson Victor Chin, who is now lifting the lid on the alleged “corporate mafia” scandal, to keep spilling the beans in the media.

This comes after former PKR vice-president R Sivarasa advised Chin not to mimic Tei’s “theaterics” and instead lodge a police report over the claim that a PKR MP solicited RM9.5 million to resolve the “corporate mafia” scandal.

Tei, however, argued that turning to the authorities would be the wrong move.

“I advise Chin to continue revealing further information through the media; only strong influence and widespread media coverage can ensure his safety,” he said in a media statement.

Reflecting on his own experience, Tei (above) claimed that Malaysians have seen that the authorities cannot be trusted.

“How many police and MACC reports have I made since the end of 2024, yet no action has been taken against those in power and influence despite the abundance of evidence,” he added.

Since November 2024, Tei has implicated more than a dozen Sabah politicians, along with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former aide Shamsul Iskandar Akin, in the mining scandal.

He submitted around 300 pages of evidence, including video recordings, WhatsApp messages, and other documents, to the MACC.

Two of the politicians and Shamsul were subsequently charged alongside Tei. One of these politicians, Yusof Yacob, was later appointed as the new Sabah Development Bhd (SDB) chairperson, drawing criticism from various quarters.

Last November, Anwar said investigations were ongoing, though no updates have emerged since.

The prime minister also denied allegations that his administration is shielding the politicians, who are allies of his Pakatan Harapan coalition.

Yesterday, in a 40-page document detailing a chronology of events surrounding his alleged issues with the “corporate mafia”, Chin claimed that the PKR lawmaker had asked him to arrange RM10 million in cash to resolve the businessperson’s problems.

Chin also reiterated his plea for Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail to “uncover the truth” behind the alleged dealings of the “corporate mafia”.

Last month, Bloomberg named Chin as part of a network of businesspeople who allegedly colluded with the MACC to stage corporate takeovers of rivals - Mkini
