'Bohong' sparks hour-long fight in Parliament, Lim ejected

PARLIAMENT The use of the word "bohong" (lie) sparked an hour-long war of words in Parliament tonight, which ended with Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) getting the boot.
The fight began when Lim demanded Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan to retract a statement he made last week, allegedly accusing the former of lying.
Rahman, however, defended himself, saying he had meant that Lim's statement that the affordable housing rate capped at RM400,000 was set by the federal government, was a lie.
Deputy speaker Ismail Mohamad Said agreed with Rahman, saying that the word "bohong" was not directed at Lim.
This set off an hour-long argument in the House, with Lim insisting that the word "bohong" was unparliamentary and that Rahman should retract it.
It ended with Ismail ejecting Lim from the Dewan Rakyat.
Also given the boot was Teo Kok Seong (DAP-Rasah) whom the deputy speaker said had recorded the fight with his phone.
Ismail repeatedly said Lim could submit a motion if he did not agree with the decision made, but unsuccessfully called for the House to settle down.
The fighting ended with Ismail ejecting Lim from the Dewan Rakyat.
Also given the boot was Teo Kok Seong (DAP-Rasah) whom the deputy speaker said had recorded the fight with his phone.
Speaking to reporters after he was ejected, Lim said he was disappointed with Ismail's decision.
"The word 'bohong' has been unparliamentary since my first term in Parliament in 1986; whoever said this without retracting would be told to leave," Lim said.
He insisted that he did nothing wrong and was only defending the Standing Orders throughtout the argument. --Mkini
