Bungalow's previous owner mulls legal action over mugshots

Phang Li Koon, the businesswoman who sold her property to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, is mulling legal action against newspapers which have published her mugshot in their reports today.
State executive councillor Phee Boon Poh said such action threatens Phang’s safety and security.
“Before this, nobody knew who she was, now her security is at risk," Phee told Malaysiakini.
“They do not know what kind of people we are dealing with, so I will advise her to lodge a police report and take legal action on those who threaten her security,” he added.
Yesterday, Phang signed a statutory declaration to say that she sold the bungalow on Jalan Pinhorn to Lim on ‘willing buyer-willing seller’ basis for the agreed price of RM2.8 million in 2012.
However, the private transaction has since been alleged by Umno Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya in Parliament as being linked to the sale of the Taman Manggis land to a third party.
In the SD, Phang said she sold the home due to numerous safety concerns involving the house and attempts by unscrupulous parties to jeopardise her reputation.
She and Lim had executed an agreement dated June 23, 2014, where she granted the CM a five-year option tenure to purchase the house at the agreed price.
This was done in consideration of Lim paying her RM100,000, and she would allow him and his family to continue renting the place.
The option was duly exercised when parties subsequently entered into a sale and purchase agreement on Jul 28, 2015.
BN strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan has described Phang’s SD as “odd” as it was read out by Phee (photo).
"Why can't she come out and read her SD on her own? At least the press can ask her directly. After all she said she has nothing to hide," Rahman had tweeted yesterday.
"I hope Phang can come out in public to answer questions. Surely that would give more credence to her defense of Lim," he added.
Phee said that the mere fact that he was entrusted to read out Phang’s SD yesterday as her family member is certainly not a basis to discredit the SD’s content nor implicate the CM in any wrongdoing.
“Miss Phang is a relative of mine, an innocent party being needlessly dragged through this episode.
“She has chosen to honour the commitment made back in 2012 to CM, one that was made not because of material gains but for her simple belief that she could assist the CM in his housing concern,” he lamented.
“Hence, she should not be penalised for this act of goodwill."
Phee said Rahman's audacious attempts are unbecoming of a public figure.
As a federal minister, he said it would be more strategic for Rahman “to keep his dignity and self-respect in speaking the truth instead of finding ways to impress the public and harm well-meaning individuals, with baseless accusations”. -Mkini
