Cops detonate bombs found at KLCC

Police today detonated two homemade explosives found at popular tourist spot Aquaria KLCC.

Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Fuad Omar told Malaysiakini the explosives were successfully detonated by a robot handled by the police bomb squad at about 7.45pm.

“The bombs were fashioned out of jars. There was no untoward incident,” he said when contacted.

Dang Wangi police chief Zainol Samah said further details will be provided to the media soon.

Fuad said an Aquaria KLCC attendant spotted the jars at about 5.30pm and moved them near a trash can at the connecting Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

KLCC security personnel suspecting something amiss contacted police, who in turn sent a bomb squad.

The Fire and Rescue Department were called in to stand by while the explosives were detonated.

Fuad said the bombs were detonated at the park in front of the convention centre, after it was cordoned off from the public.

Police personnel are still on site to study the materials used to make the explosives, he said. -Mkini
