Muslims in Selangor have been urged to abide by the decree of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to follow the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah (Sunni) teachings.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the Sultan also urged all Muslims in the state not to be influenced by Syiah (Shiite) and Wahabi teachings.
"The Selangor government and Muslims in this state will uphold Sunni teachings," he told reporters after a working visit to several locations in Sabak Bernam district today.
Mohamed Azmin was asked to comment on reports on the social media that the Selangor Sultan had asked the state government to draw up an official agreement with an international university from West Asia to ensure its management did not spread Shiite and Wahabi teachings in this country.
The social media had reported that the sultan's decree was stated in a letter dated March 11, 2016, asking the state government under Mohamed Azmin to ensure that the people of Selangor were not influenced by religious teachings other than Sunni.
According to the reports, the sultan also said if the international university broke the agreement, the state government had the right to withdraw its licence and take back the land, as well as disallow it to continue its courses.
However, Mohamed Azmin declined to comment when asked if the state government had met and signed the agreement with the university.
