Jailani: Some Terengganu Umno leaders still on ‘honeymoon’

Umno must be prepared to counter Opposition propaganda

HULU TERENGGANU: Umno must be prepared to counter propaganda by the opposition parties which often distort issues on the government and party.

Hulu Terengganu Umno division chief Jailani Johari said Umno members must not be complacent or be overly comfortable to the point of failing to counter-attack.

“Instead, we must manage the party’s internal issues well. Don’t leave the ship’s skipper alone because he is picked by the party. There should not be two skippers on one ship.”

Jailani, who is also Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister, said this after opening the annual general meetings of its branches and wings, here, Saturday night, which was also attended by the division’s deputy chief Datuk Rozi Mamat.

He said the challenges facing Umno were getting tougher and the incident at the Terengganu State Assembly sitting on March 8 (involving an Umno assemblyman tabling a motion of no confidence against the menteri besar) should be a lesson.

“We don’t want Terengganu to fall to the opposition. Some leaders in Terengganu are still on their ‘honeymoon’, feeling strong and over-confident, while many at the lower ranks are starting to make noise,” he said.

Meanwhile in Kluang, the Felda Bukit Tongkat 1 Umno branch here voiced their undivided support to the leadership of the party president and Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Branch head Musa Yahaya said the Felda settlers, particularly, were fully behind the prime minister and urged the old leaders to return and help in strengthening the party and the Malay community.

“No matter whatever crisis that may crop up, we will remain behind the prime minister because we are confident in his leadership to steer the nation,” he told reporters at a People’s Solidarity Gathering at the 1Malaysia Internet Centre, Felda Bukit Tongkat 1.
