KUALA TERENGGANU: A man ran amok and created a stir at the Bukit Payong police station here yesterday when his request to be allowed to sleep there was turned down.
State Criminal Investigation Head ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said the incident occurred at 4.40am when the 30-year-old man, who was accompanied by friend, went to the station.
“The suspect asked for permission from a policeman to be allowed to sleep at the station because his life was being threatened.
“Suddenly, he turned aggressive and hurled abusive words, as well as pushed a computer from the counter, and when the policeman coaxed him to be calm, he called the policeman to a fight and also asked for his (policeman) pistol.
“When the situation cooled down, the suspect and his friend left the station,” he told reporters today.
However, Wan Abdul Aziz said the man, armed with a machete and accompanied by four others, returned to the station about 7.30am, and when they met a group of policemen, hurled abusive words at them and called them to a fight.
To avoid any unwanted incident, police apprehended the suspect and his four friends, aged between 23 and 41, and seized the machete, he added.
He said all of them tested negative for drugs and had no previous record.
All of them were remanded for four days, beginning today, for investigation, he said.
