Minister: Gov't satisfied with Tabung Haji's management

PARLIAMENT The government is satisfied with performance of Lembaga Tabung Haji's (TH) current top management, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom in a written parliamentary response, said this was based on their management of the annual Haji pilgrimage and strong financial status.
"As of Dec 31,2015, TH's total Realisable Asset Value amounted to RM64.5 billion.
"TH's liabilities, meanwhile, amounts to RM0.7 billion and total deposits before payment of bonus is RM59.3 billion," said Jamil Khir in response to Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul.
Johari had asked the government to state the total amount of TH's current assets and risk exposure, as well as whether action would be taken against its chairman and board members for allegedly compromising the security of the fund.
On Jan 26, Bank Negara reportedly confirmed it had sent advisory notices to Tabung Haji on its risk management practices.
PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli had in a series of press conferences, exposed alleged loss-making investments by Tabung Haji, including in Felda Global Ventures Holdings and a bread making company.
Rafizi had previously reiterated his call for TH chairperson Abdul Azeez Rahim to step down, if the Baling MP was adamant about not wanting the pilgrimage fund to be the centre of political attention.
TH had lodged a police report against Rafizi for alleging that the fund had made almost RM1 billion in corporate guarantees to troubled associate company TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE).
The pilgrimage fund with close to nine million depositors, also made international headlines over land transactions linked to debt-ridden state-investor 1MDB.
Tabung Haji's top management has so far denied all allegations made against them and has assured depositors their funds are safe. -Mkini
