ALOR SETAR - A private car belonging to Bukit Kayu Hitam assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Zaini Japar caught fire suddenly while it was parked at the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters on Sunday.
A fire engine with five firemen were rushed to the scene and managed to put out the blaze by 5.26pm.
Ahmad Zaini said he was not in the Mercedes Benz when the fire occurred.
“My driver Pak Halim had driven the car to IPD Kubang Pasu to lodge a police report on an unrelated matter,” he said, noting that a wiring fault could have caused the fire.
He said the car had been parked at the Kuala Perlis jetty from Friday to Sunday when he was in Langkawi to attend a programme.
Ahmad Zaini said that on the way back from Langkawi, he had noticed the battery light blinking.
“I instructed my driver to re-send the car to the workshop for inspection,” he said, adding that the car had been serviced just two days before he had gone to Langkawi.
“The estimated losses caused by fire are about RM100,000,” he said.
