PETALING JAYA: Police have ordered Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) to call off its course on Marxism, scheduled for this Sunday, much to the party’s disappointment
In revealing this, PSM’s central committee member S Arutchelvan said the order to cancel the course restricted academic discussions and was also futile as citizens could still learn about the ideology online.
“It is also against our rights. As a registered political party, we should be allowed to explain socialism and voice out against the negative aspects of capitalism,” he told FMT after a meeting with Petaling Jaya police chief Zaini Che Din for about an hour.
Arutchelvan who was once the party’s secretary-general, said PSM planned to sue the police following the order to cancel their programme.
This, he explained, was because Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar had also slandered the party by claiming PSM was attempting to revive communism before an investigation was even conducted as to whether this was true.
“The programme will be cancelled not because of the programme itself, but because 107 people lodged police reports. We will discuss with our lawyers the next course of action.”
He added, to date, 78 participants had registered to attend the Marxisme Kilat Course which was scheduled to be held at Dewan Budaya Gerakbudaya here.
