Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak could only shake his head on claims made online that the Sultan of Johor had refused to shake his hand.

Commenting on the claim today, Najib said the Johor ruler had in fact waited for him at the palace.

“I drank tea with him, rode in the car driven by the Johor Sultan,” said Najib to applause from the audience at the launch of the Kami Anak Felda (KAF) association in Kuala Lumpur today.

He added that he had sat next to the ruler and also chatted with him.

“And you expect me to shake his hand again? People will say (I’m) crazy.

“We shook hands at the palace, rode in the same car, shake hands again?” said Najib, posing this to the audience.

Najib’s clarification today comes as it was spread online through blogs and videos supposedly showing the encounter where the sultan did not want to shake his hand at the launch of Forest City in Johor last week.

One video shows the Johor ruler shaking hands with people after he arrived and turning his head away from Najib and continuing to walk ahead. -Mkini
