Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been urged to prove how talking about the RM2.6 billion donation issue would lead to action being taken under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
Pro-Umno portal MyKMU.net in an article today was responding to Mahathir who had, in his blog post yesterday, said that the RM2.6 billion donation was not a government secret and hence, information about the money cannot be protected under the OSA.
“No one claimed that the RM2.6 billion donation is part of the OSA. The attorney-general never threatened to jail anyone who speaks about this donation under the OSA.
“So how could Mahathir’s blog make such claims? We now urge him to prove when and where the attorney-general had stated that he will take action under the OSA with regard to this issue,” the portal demanded.
Mahathir yesterday said the OSA was not meant to 'make secret criminal acts' committed by civil servants and officers.
The former premier was commenting on attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's plans to strengthen the OSA so that those who leak government secrets and journalists who protect the source of those leaks, can be sentenced to life imprisonment and 10 strokes of the cane.
Meanwhile, MyKMU said Mahathir’s blog should not continue lying to the public through its 'manipulative' statements.
The OSA, added the portal, was used during Mahathir’s time more than any other prime ministers.
“Under Najib's administration, no one has been charged under the OSA for exposing issues on corruption like in the time of Mahathir.
“Strangely, Mahathir thinks he’s fit and holy enough to slander the prime minister and to lead astray the rakyat with statements which are half-true.”
On Mahathir's claim that the authorities were not in the know about the money that was transferred into Najib’s accounts, MyKMU asked whether Mahathir was truly senile in this matter.
“If the blog is written by Mahathir, that means he is now a lunatic who lives in a surreal world,” said the portal, without mincing its words. -Mkini
