Red Shirts group out of ideas, jibes Khairuddin

Former Umno man says Red Shirts group leader Jamal Yunos is now the laughing stock of the people.

PUTRAJAYA: Former Umno man Khairuddin Abu Hassan quipped that the party’s Sungai Besar chief Jamal Yunos had run out of ideas when he led a protest outside the office of former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here today.

He said Jamal’s move would not affect anyone, and said he had in fact become a laughing stock among Malaysians.

“Whatever these people do, the public will reject it. Whatever we do, they want to imitate us as they don’t have any originality, besides defending a corrupt leader.

“Our movement received amazing support from the people because they supported the Citizens’ Declaration. We do our work sincerely without expecting anything in return,” he told FMT when contacted.

Recently, Mahathir, several prominent Umno leaders as well as Opposition leaders signed the Citizens’ Declaration, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak and for institutional reforms to take place.

Earlier this afternoon, Jamal went to the Perdana Leadership Foundation here, accompanied by 400 supporters, to express disagreement over the declaration and Mahathir’s decision to join forces with the Opposition.

“They said the declaration did not receive support from the public when in fact they were the ones who were being over-excited and afraid of the declaration which clearly received the people’s support.

“What are these Umno henchmen so afraid of? This is a democratic nation. So it is up to us to join forces with anyone we want. What’s wrong with that?”
