Former Perdana Fellow says Youth and Sports Ministry has demonstrated transparency by asking MACC to probe fraud and being ready to set up panel to remedy wrongs.
PETALING JAYA: Former Perdana Fellow Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman has praised Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin for his response to the alleged misappropriation of RM100 million by one of his ministry’s senior officers.
In his Facebook post yesterday, Syed Saddiq said: “I applaud YB KJ for coming up with a swift response to this intolerable act of mass corruption. RM100 juta (RM100m) which was misappropriated by those who are ‘money crazy’, should have been channelled to the youths.
“Those found guilty should be brought to face justice.
“YB (Khairy) openly invited MACC to look into the matter way before it went public and even proposed for the setting up of an independent panel to correct the institutional failures. This is what transparency means,” he posted.
He said this in reference to the recent arrest of a senior official with the Youth and Sports Ministry on suspicion of having misappropriated some RM100 million over the past six years.
Syed Saddiq said Prime Minister Najib Razak should have done the same with the 1Malaysia Development Berhad and RM2.6 billion sagas.
He lamented the “despicable” state of corruption in Malaysia, where the rakyat was made to suffer, but a corrupt few lived like Kings and Queens.
