Three deviant teachings come under gov’t scrutiny

Minister in the PM's Department lists liberal thinking as one of the "deviant" teachings.
Jamil-KhirKUALA LUMPUR: The government has so far outlawed 99 deviant teachings in the country, and are currently monitoring three active ones, the Dewan Rakyat heard today.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom, who is in charge of Islamic affairs, listed the three as liberal thinking, “Pertubuhan Kerabat Raja Sakti”, and the Millah Ibrahim/Abraham teaching that originated from Indonesia.
According to him, the number of deviant teachings in the country had gone down by the year, starting with 10 in 2010, down to eight the year after, five for three consecutive years beginning 2012 and down to the current three.
“This decrease is due to the government’s strict enforcement, as well as the explanation given by religious authorities to the public.”
Jamil said this in a written reply to Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PAS-Bachok) who asked the prime minister to list down deviant teachings in the country and the nature of the sexual offences its followers were guilty of since 1980.
To the latter’s question on sexual crimes, Jamil clarified that even when committed in the setting of a deviant teaching, suspects were dealt with under the Penal Code, and not under the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment.
